Melmann Mead

Meet the new addition to our family! Melmann, the great Dane! He's 12 weeks old and weighs 31 pounds. I'll share his story this week, I just had to share the news now! Here's our baby:

He's still figuring out jumps and stairs:

We went to the dog park with our two couple friends who have dogs. He loved it and did really good on his first day on a leash! When we get home, this is all he's done! I think he had too much fun:

One Year!

Proven fact – Oklahoma has the cutest babies! Last weekend my husband and I took a 5 hour drive to Edmond, OK to officially meet Mason, our good friend’s baby. He is PRECIOUS! He is so healthy and happy looking, I love it. Here’s the little guy enjoying time with his daddy:

After our visit in Edmond we drove to Tulsa to see my niece and nephew. Corbin has grown SO much! He’s only two months old but as soon as I picked him up I could tell his little belly was growing. It’s so precious. We spend lots of time together when I’m around:

Looking more and more like my brother:

Then of course, Miss Ariana had to show me her new princess dress she got from Aunt Heather. She was dancing around with her light up princess shoes and just couldn’t be any sweeter:

On Saturday night last weekend we went out with some friends. Mr. Mead and our friend Chuck started drinking at noon watching the MU game so it was a long day for them. We started out around 6:30pm at our friends, Dane and Sara’s, house sipping on margaritas and ordered Mexican food. We played some card games and then walked to “The Other Place” in Overland Park. It was a lot of fun! We hung out in the back room of the bar playing darts and pool and just chatting. By the end of the night our friends decided to balance bar stools on their faces… I can’t make this up! Ha. Here’s some pictures.. #2 is an action shot of Chuckie’s stool falling and knocking over the shots on the table. And yes… we are all in our upper 20’s (some in the 30s, but I won’t mention names!) I love my KC friends…

Before the bar :)

In the next few months Josh and I will be adopting a great dane, Melmann. To prepare for his arrival we have to have a lot of things (he’s almost as bad as a baby!) We need.. a fence, a huge crate, food bowls, beds, collars, etc. It seems like a simple, common list if you’re getting a dog. BUT most dogs aren’t 100-120 lbs so preparing for this baby is NOT cheap and a lot more work. For one – Melmann has to have elevated food bowls. He’s too big to lean over and eat from the floor. So that was the first on our list. We went to PetsMart and bought two HUGE bowls for food and water. Josh’s dad is building us a wooden stand that the bowls will go in. Each bowl was $25… you can imagine how big they are. He has to have a custom queen size (yes, queen size!) dog bed to lie on. It has to be really padded since they have sensitive joints.. haha. I know sounds retarded but I’m serious! That bed is $150. So yea, this dog is more than just a dog… he’s an investment! But it’s ok… I’ve been waiting for him since I was in middle school. Plus, I’ve already started saving for this little (big) guy! Josh hasn’t been around great danes like I had growing up so he thought I was nuts when I got the bowls so big. I found this youtube video and it’s a great show to prove my case – they can drink for 5 minutes straight! Enjoy :)

This weekend is exactly one year since I married my best friend! It was the best weekend of our lives.. I know everyone says that but it honestly was ours. It’s hard to explain unless you’re married. Having all your family and best friends with you for two straight days is incredible. Then we were off to Jamaica. Time has flown by! Now we own a house in a suburb, bought a new car, and are adopting a dog. What a great year it has been.

Our wedding party a year ago:

Most people celebrate by taking a vacation.. not the Meads. Our vacation is no planes and no hotels! We are cooking out at the house tonight and just hanging out in KC tomorrow with no plans. Maybe a movie, dinner, etc… we will see what we feel like.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
